Cartier celebrates the reopening of its freshly renovated boutique in May. CEO of Cartier Northern Europe, Alexis de Laporte, explains in an interview why luxury is timeless, the goals of the renovation, and the importance of sustainability.
What does luxury mean to you?
For me, luxury embodies craftsmanship, timelessness, and modernity. Although the definition of luxury may vary from person to person, its essence remains timeless. Jewelry holds a special place in people’s hearts, serving as
a wonderful reminder of life’s precious moments.
What does the new boutique promise?
The goal was to carefully preserve the treasures of the past and the authenticity of the listed building at the corner of Kohlmarkt. And: We are excited to present the extra ordinary world of Cartier in all its diversity even better.
For Cartier Vienna, you collaborated with local companies …
Collaboration with local manufacturers is an essential part of our vision. Generally, Cartier undertakes several initiatives to minimize environmental impact and pro mote ethical practices. We strive to reduce waste, conserve
resources, and source materials responsibly.
The Cartier Boutique in Vienna has been extensively expanded and renovated, shining with fresh beauty since May: On a newly created sales area of 329 square meters, the goal is to preserve the treasures of the past and invite customers on an extraordinary journey to the heart of the Maison. The renovation work focused on integrating local craftsmanship – the result is a harmonious interplay of tradition and modernity with decorative objects from the renowned Augarten porcelain manufactory and the Vienna trading house Lobmeyr, as well as warm lighting from the local company WOKA.
The panther, the Maison’s symbol, was chosen as an emblematic motif due to its in separable connection with Cartier’s style and history. Visitors to the boutique can expect a series of eyecatchers: The ground floor is an ode to the splendor and flair of the capital city, where Austria’s traditional vegetation and the artistic inspiration of Vienna’s art world, including Gustav Klimt, impress.
The first floor, inspired by the golden era of Vienna’s coffee culture of the 1920s, invites you to linger. The second floor of the listed building focuses on craftsmanship and showcases elegant classics of Cartier Fine and Haute Joaillerie.

The Boltenstern brand represents cutting-edge technology combined with long-standing craftsmanship to create visionary pieces of unique fluidity made from 18-karat gold, colored gemstones, and diamonds. An ingenious process makes this possible – the in-house development of algorithms and the precise use of 3D printing continue to create brilliance even on the brand’s 60th anniversary. In 2015, the then 25-year-old architect Marie Boltenstern (who designed the debutantes’ tiaras for the 2016 Vienna Opera Ball for Swarovski) took over the family business. She combines her expertise with the traditional goldsmith’s workshop founded by her father Sven in 1964 – he was a pioneer of his time, creating artistic gold jewelry.
Boltenstern’s vision is clear: to expand the craftsmanship of traditional goldsmithing with new possibilities. The 3D technology specialist programs all the brand’s designs herself, creating smooth jewelry pieces that are particularly appreciated for their unique feel and innovative design. With “Embrace”, Marie Boltenstern achieved the world’s first commercial collection directly 3D-printed from 18 karat gold powder and combined with gemstones.
A real eye-catcher is the new product combination “Fabnora”: the entry-level brand combines super lightweight, 3D-printed polyamide with recycled 925 sterling silver or18-karat gold for the first time. The earring pendants can be swapped out as desired, with new colors and shapes introduced seasonally. “Fabnora” is available at over 150 jewelers (90 of them in Austria), with the gold collections available at ten jewelers in Austria – exclusively in Vienna at Atelier Boltenstern.

“AENEA stands for jewelry created to highlight the personality of its wearer,” explains Costán A. Eghiazarian, founder and CEO of the label, which has been based in the Mozart city of Salzburg since 2013. “For the production of each piece, the highest craftsmanship is an absolute prerequisite. Design and quality are an inseparable symbiosis.”
AENEA can be found in the “Goldsmith’s House,” a historic building from the early 1400s in the idyllic Goldgasse, right in the heart of Salzburg’s old town. For centuries, this place has been the heart of Austrian, German, and Italian (goldsmith) art.
Since its founding, the label has built an international clientele with high-quality creations. Through exclusive exhibitions, the so-called “Travelling Ateliers,” AENEA can present its works of art to its select audience not only in Europe but also in Asia and North America.
„Jewelry is more than just an accessory. It must be a part of the personality or become one. Therefore, personal exchange is very important to me. This way, I learn a lot about the person who is supposed to wear the piece of jewelry,” notes Eghiazarian. Another aspect of the company is its focus on individual creations – with particular emphasis on discretion. In Vienna, the label has a showroom.

Elisabeth Habig leads her namesake jewelry store in Vienna City as a goldsmith and milliner, focusing on the extraordinary: she designs unconventional (head) jewelry. Her creations are characterized by sculptural design, combining unusually cut gemstones, raw minerals, and unique surfaces. The unexpected forms and structures make her pieces wearable art. Her signature is the ring, symbolizing infinity. As a child, Habig had
a passion for stones, minerals, and structures – now she incorporates these imprints of nature into her jewelry using casting and negative molding techniques. But that’s not all: the goldsmith uses feathers in the creation of fascinators. By cutting, shaping, and combining the lightweight materials, she creates structures and surfaces that exude a chic and elegant look. Moreover, Habig emphasizes sustainability: creating jewelry in a sustainable and fair manner – each accessory is locally produced.
